The Red Purse Collection is our way of giving back to the community, to honour and raise awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) in Canada.

We launch this collection to shed light on the reality of MMIWG. For far too long, we’ve experienced systemic inappropriate sexualization that feeds deeply into our society. Indigenous women and girls are dying because of sexualized, violent crime.

The Red Purse Collection will:

  • Honour MMIWG: Serve as a daily reminder to honour the lives that have been lost.
  • Educate: Shed light on this issue for those who are not aware.
  • Contribute: Give 15% of the profits of this collection to a charity that either provides support services for Indigenous women fleeing domestic violence or programming intended to empower Indigenous women and girls.

The collection was inspired by Jamie Black’s REDress Project — an installation art project —  which serves as a visual reminder of the staggering number of women who are no longer with us. It serves to draw attention to the gendered and racialized nature of violent crimes against Indigenous women, and to evoke a presence through the marking of absence.
