We settled on the Gratitude Collection, as we are grateful for the Elkskin leathers used for these bags, the opportunity to design in collaboration with Helen Oro, and the ability to continue to work in fashion in the midst of so much adversity and economic challenges for Indigenous women entrepreneurs, artists and designers.
This collection was born from a desire to reflect our collective traditional roots with modern design techniques. The Elk Skin leathers are provided by local hunters and treated in Saskatchewan. Traditionally, we are taught to use every single piece of the animal, and give thanks. Each piece is smudged in prayer before it is sent out.
We would like to thank everyone involved with pulling this collection together:
Anas Alasadi and Lisa Thomas (SheNative Team)
Tenille Campbell of Sweetmoon Photography
Models of Masala Model & Talent; Britni Lee Michel, Alexis Tootoosis, and Jaelyn Goodstriker.
Trisha Gardypie for the Hair looks
Jerrelei Sabri of Essence of Jerre for make-up looks
Cheekbone Beauty as we used sustain lipsticks (Aki, Askîhk, and Kéyah) on our models.
Bannock Express, who provided the tea and bannock.
And finally acknowledgement and thanks to our funders for this project: Creative Saskatchewan & Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan.
