Social justice, parental rights, child development, my son, my friends, my family, genetics, biotechnology, learning in general, travelling – I'm kind of all over the map!
To me, being empowered means having the power to do what you feel is right and go after what you want in life in an unapologetic way. Empowerment is supporting yourself and others so that living in an empowered way is possible.
I’m excited about a lot right now! Seeing a lot of local businesses opening around Saskatoon and how the community is getting behind them has been great lately. I love H4D and their goal of empowering women. I can't get enough of my role as director of the Parents on Campus group at the U of S, planning for the new school year. Helping out on the planning committee for the upcoming Indigenous Runway Project Canada event in September has been an incredible experience so far. And I'm really excited to get to the lake and do some paddleboarding with my son this summer. It'll be great to relax and enjoy making memories with him in a place I loved going to growing up.
I haven't designated a word for 2016 yet, but if I had to choose one now, it would probably just be "enjoy". I've been so lucky over the past couple years or so to be involved in some really great projects. I know someday I'll look back on this time in my life and recognize how busy it was, but I also want to remember how much I enjoyed it.
